Begin with the End in
Mind…
This phrase can be credited to Stephen Covey, the author of “7 Habits of
Highly Effective People”, a book that greatly impacted my life positively.
Beginning with the end in mind makes a lot of difference because then,
you clearly define what you plan to achieve from every cause and you are able
to align your actions and steps to the plan. It means having a clear vision,
objective and/target.
It helps you to focus better and not get distracted by the “noise of the
market”, it builds your resilience because in face of challenging situations,
you will be able to draw strength from the clarity of your vision.
Imagine having a vision to become the Managing Director of the bank you
work for and one morning you find N10m in a place with no CCTV where if you
take the money, you are almost 100% certain you will not get caught; you are
likely to draw the strength to resist the temptation because you know that such
an action will taint your reputation and may destroy your dream of occupying
the MD seat. The same applies for wanting to wear a sexy size 14 dress by the
end of the year but you are still a size 18 in March, you are better able to
avoid the junks and stick to your exercise routine because you have already
pictured yourself in the outfit and have probably even bought it. You would
agree with me that simply wanting to lose some weight does not carry the same
weight as planning to wear a dress of a specific size at a specific time and
for a specific function.
A clear picture of “your end” builds your
strength and keeps you on the right path even in the most challenging situations.
